Just read a book based on the British Special Ops Executive in France during 1942. A guy named Yeo-thomas trying to help out the French resistance, by use of a secret army is caught and suffers in the hands of the Gestapo.
Although upsetting to read of the SS activities and treatment to the prisoners, it's amazing to read how yeo-thomas kept morale up and was always alert and trying to escape, it was a gripping read and i recommend it to anybody who enjoys reading.
Here's a snipit:
"His visitor was a burly Wehrmacht Feldwebel with pig like eyes, along upper lip and a short nose: striding across the cell in heavy jackboots he stood in frount of tommy and glared at him. 'Pritish officer?' the feldwebel said. 'Vee will kill you slowly.' He then smashed one of his fists on Tommy's nose and mouth, crashed the other on his chin, kicked him in the groin and laughed bestially. Dazed and bleeding Yeo-Thomas staggered against the wall. 'Thank you,' he said, but the irony was lost on the N.C.O., who laughed again as he went out.
He was back in the depth of despair again when a gay voice came from the buliding opposite;
'Good morning to Tommy from Texas and Jim. How are you?'
He rushed to the window and removed the pane.
'Good morning, Jim. I have just been beaten up by a bastard'
The complaint was made almost joyfully!"
Lol, don't know about you, but the way he says that at the end made me laugh =), still upbeat after all the shit he's been through...
Good book, makes you think and respect those people that fought for us all those years ago.
Heh. Written by Bruce Marshall.
